Expectations Drive Behavior: Entering 2025 with a Renewed Mind

As we approach 2025, the team at Renewed Integrative Counseling reflects on the power of expectations and how they shape our lives. What we believe about ourselves, God, and the world around us influences our actions—and our actions ultimately impact our reality.

The Bible tells us:

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” – Hebrews 11:1

Faith-filled expectations grounded in God’s truth lead to healing, strength, peace, and purpose. This year, we invite you to set bold expectations for what God can do in and through you.

Expect a Renewed Mind

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” – Romans 12:2

Transformation starts with how you think. When you focus your thoughts on God’s truth, your actions naturally begin to align with His will. Let this be the year you expect growth and transformation by renewing your mind in Christ.

Expect Healing

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” – Psalm 147:3

You don’t have to carry the pain of the past into the new year. God promises healing to those who seek Him. At Renewed Integrative Counseling, we walk alongside you on the journey to freedom from what has kept you bound for years.

Expect Strength

“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’” – 2 Corinthians 12:9

Life’s stressors can feel overwhelming, but God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness. Expect strength to rise within you as you lean into Him and develop healthy tools to cope with life’s challenges.

Expect Healthy Relationships

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” – Proverbs 27:17

Relationships deeply influence your mental and spiritual health. This year, expect to form new, healthy relationships that pour into your life rather than drain from it. Do the work required to restore God ordained meaningful relationships in your life. God places people in our lives to encourage, uplift, and help us grow. Don't let past hurtful experiences cause you to lose hope in what can be. Be in expectation.

Expect Peace

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:7

True peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life. It’s cultivated through prayer, time in God’s Word, and meditating on who you are in Christ. Let this year be marked by unshakable peace.

Expect Joy

“The joy of the Lord is your strength.” – Nehemiah 8:10

Joy is a fruit of the Spirit that transcends circumstances. This year, choose joy by focusing on the blessings God has placed in your life and trusting Him for what’s to come. Practice gratitude multiple times per day and watch what happens.

Expect Purpose and Drive

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:10

God always has a plan for each season of your life. Walk boldly into this year with purpose and determination, knowing that He has already prepared a path for you. At Renewed Integrative Counseling, we make it a priority to help each individual and family we serve to discover and walk in their purpose so that they can shine their light in this dark world.

Expect Alignment and Favor

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – Matthew 6:33

When you align your life with God’s Word and direction, and stay faithful to His plan, His favor will follow. This year, expect alignment with His good and perfect will as you stay rooted in faith and obedience.

Live with a Renewed Mind in 2025

“Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” – Colossians 2:7

Expectations don’t just influence our spiritual lives—they also profoundly impact our brains and behavior. Modern neuroscience reveals how our thoughts shape our actions and ultimately, our lives.

The Neuroscience of Expectations

How Expectations Influence Behavior:

The brain is wired to anticipate outcomes based on what we expect. Expectations shape how we interpret the world around us, affecting our actions and responses. When we consistently focus on positive or faith-based expectations, our brains begin to form new neural pathways that support those beliefs.

Cognitive Bias: The brain tends to seek evidence to confirm what we already believe, whether positive or negative. When you set expectations of healing, peace, or joy, your brain becomes primed to notice and act on opportunities that align with those beliefs.

Reward Systems: The brain’s reward center, primarily involving dopamine, activates when we anticipate good outcomes. This process motivates us to take actions consistent with those positive expectations.

The Power of a Renewed Mind:

The Bible instructs us to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2), and neuroscience supports this truth. The concept of neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to reorganize itself—shows that our thoughts can literally reshape the structure of our brains.

Renewal Through Positive Focus: When we meditate on God’s truth and promises, our minds become increasingly aligned with His will. This not only enhances emotional well-being but also strengthens our ability to make faith-driven decisions.

Breaking Negative Cycles: Replacing negative expectations with faith-filled ones disrupts harmful thought patterns, creating space for healing and growth.

The Impact on Your Life

When we live with a renewed mind, grounded in positive expectations and God’s truth, our actions align with the abundant life He desires for us. Expecting healing, peace, and joy doesn’t just impact how we feel—it transforms how we behave, leading to healthier relationships, better decision-making, and deeper spiritual alignment.

Healing: Expecting healing fosters the resilience needed to engage in the hard work of recovery.

Strength: Setting expectations of strength builds confidence to face life’s challenges.

Peace: Living with faith-based expectations promotes calm and clarity, even in difficult circumstances.

Purpose: Anticipating purpose empowers us to live intentionally, maximizing our God-given potential.
